Mark and I stood waiting as the security guard walked out the back door of his booth and we prepared to go in to see Deborah Cansick.To my utter astonishment, he, instead, picked up a phone in the waiting room, dialed a number, and handed it to me. I wasn’t even allowed to see Deborah Cansick…I had to speak to her on a phone while she hid in another room!!
Well, to make a long story short, Cansick told me there was no point in giving her the paperwork I brought because they weren’t planning on fulfilling my request. free dominion
A couple of things. First, this looks like the ideal setup to avoid “personal service” of documents. Second, it is interesting to see how the CHRC perceives itself as under threat. Third, it is fascinating to realize that the Canadian government would be so frightened of its citizens to allow its agencies to impose this level of security.
Fourth, since when did the CHRC get to decide if it would or would not fulfill requests under the Freedom of Information Act? Again, how did the Canadian government get to the point where very low level functionaries make such determinations.
The CHRC has been shown to be corrupt. What is more worrying is that has become absurdly arrogant. Repealing 13 is a first step, but a full Parliamentary investigation is required and, frankly, a judicial investigation seems necessary. Parliament has limited investigative capacity – we need a real judge here.
Third, it is fascinating to realize that the Canadian government would be so frightened of its citizens to allow its agencies to impose this level of security.

Robert, forgive me for asking but what evidence do we have that these “violent neo-nazis” have ever attacked the Commission. I’m not saying there isn’t any, I just have not seen it.
And I guess Mr. McClelland doesn’t feel the HRCs need to adhere to the Freedom of Information Act. Yep, we hear every day about the “violent neo Nazis” attacking the HRCs. The real fascists are the ones sitting behind the bullet-proof glass refusing requests for information.

Interesting, where did they get the idea for that security lay out, the Ceausescu Palace in Bucharest ? The North Korean politburo? Castro’s mansion?
I’m intrigued by either the guilt-ridden timidity or the pretentious display of martial authority. Even the courts who convict and deal with the nations criminal element are not armed secretive fortresses like this CHRC “bunker”.
In either case it displays the neurotic mentality of these self serving autocrats.

I have not heard anyone refer to these people as the spawn of Satan, although I have not seen any DNA testing done, so I could not rule that out either. And on second thought, wasn’t it Ronald Reagan who quoted CS Lewis’s “Screwtape Letters” that actually did compare these shadowy bureaucrats to Satan, and with good reason.

Well, because these “quiet men” do not “raise their voices,” because they sometimes speak in soothing tones of brotherhood and peace, because, like other dictators before them, they’re always making “their final territorial demand,” some would have us accept them at their word and accommodate ourselves to their aggressive impulses. But if history teaches anything, it teaches that simple-minded appeasement or wishful thinking about our adversaries is folly. It means the betrayal of our past, the squandering of our freedom.

The Freedom of Information Act is an American (and Canadian provincial) concept to which we give no weight. The Access to Information Act is what applies to us. Pay no attention to the fact that both laws pretty much say the same thing.
