Weblog Awards Fraud
November 10, 2007 |
telling ya publishes what he calls “Anatomy of a break in” in which he demonstrates how pathetically easy (if you happen to be a flash hacker) it was to game the Weblog Awards voting system.
In the comments he states “Post-close voting is perfect evidence of fraud as humans could no longer vote being locked in the Flash side.” which effectively means that only the “gamer” could have run up vote totals after the close of voting. At the close of voting Climate Audit had won by approximately 1200 votes. After the close of voting this shifted to a 47 vote deficit.
Cui bono?
Which is not to say that the owner of Bad Astronomy had anything whatsoever to do with this. My own bet is that eager AGW supporters decided to run a bot and forgot to turn it off.
UpDate: The Weblog Awards folks have declared a tie. Which will mean we don’t get the full story on how the poll was gamed and by who. But both bloggers agreed.

I don’t plan to support the Weblog Awards next year. They’ve lost their credibility with me.
