    Sorry Catfur, I can’t imagine the remaining CHRC supporters would a) have the sense of humour, b) the tech chops, c)the capacity to say funny but accurate things about themselves required to make this minor masterpiece.

    Jay. Thanks for linking. No this is not a plant! I’m just a Canadian living in economic excile in the US. Trying to support fellow Conservative Canadians and have some FUN! I’ll provide Mark and Connie at FD with my full name and address if required.

    BTW..I have an updated version with someone subtitle spelling corrections. I had the brainfart for this on my daily commute home yesterday (after seeing the Patriot’s Superball edition) and didn’t really proof everything before I uploaded.

    I had been labouring under the impression satirical speech directed toward public figures was protected by Canadian law; an impression I most probably gathered from watching American television. As was helpfully pointed out to me this morning, Canadian courts are unlikely to accept my American television defense.

    Any tips or a primers on the subject would be most welcome.

    Well flea, I am aware of no Canadian case in which there is a positive affirmation of a “satire” defence.

    However, I find it unlikely that there is a cause of action lurking in a movie in which actors are pretending to be Nazis while funny subtitles appear. Where is the damage to reputation? And whose? The CHRC’s?

    Before there is a need for a defence there has to be something actionable and even with the low bars set recently I just can’t see where such a thing would rise in this film.

    But I suspect I could be wrong.

    Caper29b, I’m happy to learn that you are able to avail yourself of the honesty brokerage afforded by the First Amendment. Satire is a long valued tradition by Western society. One day I hope that we, in Canada, will be similarly blessed.
