More controversial were his post-Sept. 11 comments, in which he blamed many groups of Americans for bringing on the attack.

“I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way – all of them who tried to secularize America – I point the finger in their face and say ‘you helped this happen,’” he said during an appearance on Pat Robertson’s 700 Club. localnews”>WSLS.com

Apparently there was a television star claiming to be a Christian at the gates a little earlier today…turned away with the admonition that the objective was to love, not blame and curse, thy neighbour.

Reached for comment the Recording Angel said “Absolute no brainer. We try to be fair but Matthew 7:16 is a good guide. Mr. Falwell’s fruits were pretty much rotten to the core.”

Update: I am reminded from another place that Falwell initiated the Twinky Winky is gay “meme”.

A February 1999 article in the National Liberty Journal, published by evangelical pastor Jerry Falwell, warned parents that Tinky could be a hidden homosexual symbol, saying “he is purple—the gay pride color, and his antenna is shaped like a triangle—the gay pride symbol.” wikipedia

I have to admit that Falwell’s demise leaves socon baiters like myself with only the sporadic loonieness of Pat Robertson to mock. By I still won’t miss him a bit.
