The Palin Menace

September 3rd, 2008 | Tags:

Because she jumbles up so many cultural categories, because she is a feminist not in the Yale Gender Studies sense but the How Do I Reload This Thang way, because she is a woman who in style, history, moxie and femininity is exactly like a normal American feminist and not an Abstract Theory feminist; because she wears makeup and heels and eats mooseburgers and is Alaska Tough, as Time magazine put it; because she is conservative, and pro-2nd Amendment and pro-life; and because conservatives can smell this sort of thing—who is really one of them and who is not—and will fight to the death for one of their beleaguered own; because of all of this she is a real and present danger to the American left, and to the Obama candidacy.

She could become a transformative political presence.

So they are going to have to kill her, and kill her quick.

And it’s going to be brutal. It’s already getting there.
Peggy Noonan, WSJ via SDA

But why bother killing her, you can follow the leftie trope started at talkleft and picked up by our own Dr.Dawg: the Palin Dead Pool – when, not if, Palin is dropped, kicked, from the Republican ticket.

Seems The One cannot stand the competition from an intelligent woman who has better Executive credentials than he does and is, horrors, pretty much a regular working class person. (I am surprised to see the Dawg barking so fiercely at a working class woman aspiring to high office…ah, wrong party. Got it.)

Whoops, missed this gem the first time:

(I am surprised to see the Dawg barking so fiercely at a working class woman aspiring to high office…ah, wrong party. Got it.)

And I’m not all that happy with Obama either. I must be a racist.

    Beneath you, Jay. Very silly.

    Quelle Horreur!
A smart, competent woman on the non-left!
Who would have thought that such a thing could exist!

It must be causing the entire left blogosphere to question their reason for being (or not).

And I’m surprised to see a self-described “free speecher” get all dewy-eyed and defensive about a woman who, in one of her first acts as mayor, asked the local librarian how she might go about banning certain books and the fired her…ah, right party. Got it.

tw, Mrs. Palin’s policy positions appall me only slightly less than Obama’s (such as they are). What impresses me is that she seems to be the real deal. Not a lot of cutting and trimming. No talking left then bolting right.

She appears to know some stuff that Harvard does not, and cannot, teach.

Given the through and bi-partisan corruption in Washington she might well represent a real chance at change.

And, of course, compare and contrast with Joe Biden. Or, for extra amusement, the big O himself.

    Shorter Jay: Mmmmmmmm, Kool-Aid!
It’s not about her policy positions (such as they are). It’s not even about her complete lack of experience (executive, my ass) It’s about what she’s done to gain power—i.e. play class Republican wedge politics—and what’s she’s done when she achieved it—i.e. abused in petty, partisan and unprincipled ways.
On the other hand, it does striek me as unfair that critics (albeit mostly right-wingers like Laura Schlesinger) suggest that a woman with five kids can’t serve as vice-president. I for one can’t think of a better job for someone with plenty of family responsibilities: free rent, no real work to do and no real responsibility. Until the old guy buys the farm, that is.

After they kill off Palin they’ll bury her in a secret mass grave, right Dawg?

And who the hell is Laura Schlesinger?

There is NO conservative politician who can live up to the left’s constantly shifting situational morality codes. They raise the bar stratospherically when passing judgement on conservative ethics then in a heatbeat lower it to sub-earth levels to justify the schizoid ethics of their own.

Frankly, a leftist lecturing anyone on linear ethics or morality issues is akin to a hooker passing judgement on infidelity.

This just in: Sarah Palin once parked her auto crookedly…geeze.

As I’ve mentioned before, it is quite a u-turn from the Dems saying “we want this to be about issues” to “look, a knocked-up teen”.

And you are right about the changing goal-posts we are seeing from the left. They go from slamming McCain as an old white guy with no personality to slamming Palin as a a young white woman with too much.

Time to give O’Rourke’s “Republican Party Reptile” again. I think Palin would fit in…
