The downside of free speech

The problem iwth applauding Ezra and Mark’s stand against the Human Rights Commission’s attempt to curtail free speech is that you also have to defend raving loonies like the guy who publishes The Radical Press. Now here is the challenge for people like the liar Kinsella: is it possible to separate the principle of freedom of expression and a free press from the nasty – if not actively insane – ranting you see on a site like The Radical Press?

I think it is and i think it is vital to a healthy democracy that speech is protected right down the line. If this nut bar is censored a) no one will be able to contradict him, b) he’ll simply disappear underground to spread his bile.

(If you are willing to shower afterwards, scroll down and you can see the sorts of questions the CHRC asks. They want to know who his ISP is. Cute.)

    QUOTES OF JAY’S:

“raving loonies like the guy who publishes The Radical Press”.

“...is it possible to separate the principle of freedom of expression and a free press from the nasty – if not actively insane – ranting you see on a site like The Radical Press?”

“If this nut bar is censored a) no one will be able to contradict him, b) he’ll simply disappear underground to spread his bile.”—————-

Really now Jay. “loonies”, “nut bar” “nasty” and “actively insane”. My such original and powerful ad hominem epithets!

You seem proud of the fact that you’ve been “blogging” for four years. Well, I’ve been blogging in both hard copy and digital formats for forty years.

Hopefully within the next thirty-six years you’ll have matured enough to be able to debate issues on the merits of their content rather than posting such puerile drivel as that which is contained in this feeble excuse for a meaningful blog.

    Hi Jay,

I accidentally fell upon your blog because it was referenced by Arthur Topham of The Radical Press.

Now that I’ve seen your low level name-calling of a true Canadian, I’ll come back to your blog when you’ve had time to educate yourself about what is going on in Canada. But I won’t hold my breath.

“In a time of universal deceit – telling the truth is a revolutionary act.”—-George Orwell A quote just as easily ascribed to a real Canadian, Arthur Topham.

Wow Jow! This is more fun than a Barrel of Islamists! Arthur and David, with no due respect, the right to freedom of speech must be protected – even yours. Carry on, your madness is comic.

Jay.. I see lots of name calling and expressions of contempt for the author and content of The Radical Press, but surely you can point out specific instances where Topham’s assertions are wrong?.. or maybe you can’t.—B
