The Big O

America turned a corner tonight. A corner which has been a long time coming.
Leave politics aside. McCain did in his concession speech.
And so did Obama.
Tonight America healed a wound which predated and tainted her Constitution: for the first time America’s black population took its full place at the American table.
“Tonight Change has come to America.” President-Elect Barack Obama

Amen.
I, for one, welcome my new Democrat overlord. I hope he appreciates my support over the last few months during which I have been steadfastly behind him. Honest. I would no more lie about my support of Obama than he would lie to get elected.
I’m glad that America has voted in a black president ( or at least what they perceive to be a black man)...it is unfortunate it had to be Obama.
That nation needs the “healing touch” of an inexperienced dogmatic radical like a guy with a tooth ache needs a spinal tap.
I also hope Sarah Palin doesn’t fade into obscurity. We need someone who isn’t afraid to take on overbearing monopolists and influence brokers whether they be public or private sector.
BTW: I noticed that a virtual rogues gallery of anti-American despots and tyrants are celebrating the big O victory with glee.
Jay,
Let me say it’s good to see that you have not joined your compatriats in the right-wing blogosphere in their hysterical, racist screeching at the prospect of an Obama presidency. Nice to know there are a few adults – sane adults, even – on your side of the aisle.
Nice.
Ironic “The One” only got the same amount of votes as Bush in 2004.
So when is “The World” going to ask Spain, Portugal, France, England, Holland and Denmark to “turn a corner”?
Well, yeas, I s’ppose that ideally it would have been symbolically preferable had the first Black president been someone whose Black ancestors had actually suffered as a result of American slavery and Jim Crow, instead of someone whose Black ancestor consciously decided to move to America to improve his life… still, Michelle has the required ancestry to atone for the sins of S&JC, so Barack Obama can partake of this vicariously. And his skin is the same colour, which is what really matters when we’re talking about the symbolic legacy of Martin Luther King.
Maybe Obama’s black ancestors suffered over in Africa, which was not exactly a paradise from what I have heard, (apparently it is still a mess).
Although I wouldn’t have voted for Obama, having a black president will help heal some old wounds. I can’t help but wonder though if the widespread euphoria would have been as intense had, say, Condi Rice been elected Pres. I suspect not.
Ever see that Seinfeld episode where the dentist converted to Judaism just so he could tell Jewish jokes?
This sort of reminds me of the same thing. Now the USA can go to Europe and say: we have a minority leader. What do YOU have, pasty white guys? Oh? Pasty white guys (and girl, if you include Germany).
Would have worked with Powell, though. Or, better, Rice. Hint. Hint.
Maybe there is something to this moral equivalence after all…
Well said, Jay.
Yep…standby for Oby’s State run civilian US Security Corps “as well funded as the military”.....
Why?
To what purpose?
Any hairs on backs of necks yet?
Wait,
Jay, pwooo! Smells like you stepped in Dawg shit.
Dow down 480. Russian missiles next to Poland. Change my friends is coming. If by that you mean change back to 1976.
