Steve Jobs tries to make it right
When you drop your product price by a third two months after it is launched you are going to have some annoyed early adopters. Steve needs those early adopters. So he’s giving them a store credit of $100.00. Which costs Apple, what, $60.00 with admin.
This is smart.

The folks who stood in line and paid up for the first iPhones get no sympathy from me. For months, they had bragging rights on what was deemed to be the coolest new gadget. It was obviously worth it to them. Who reading this has not bought a computer, digital camera, cell phone &c &c, and seen it or a similar (or even better) item for sale cheaper weeks or days later. This is part of modern consumerism (and a good thing on the whole, however galling it is for the individual). You are correct in saying that it is a good, inexpensive PR move, but these early adopters have no claim, IMO.
