Rumours

For the next two and a half hours those of us on the Left Coast are in media blackout land.

But we hear rumours and will joyously share them for what they are worth….

Here is one now NFLD 4 Libs/1 CPC but it appears that the NDP remains in contention for the two St. John’s seats…

Update 5:03pm : Entirely by way of unsubstantiated rumour – 13 Lib, 6 Tory, 6 NDP, 1 IND (not green)

Update 5:04pm: More rumour, likely, wrong suggests that the popular vote in NFLD was LIB 49, NDP 28, CON 19, GRN 3 But were something close to this true I suspect it would be something of a fall for the CPC

Update 5:09: It is possible that there has been a new province added to these purely speculative returns:

Lib 16
Tory 9
NDP 5
Ind 1 (not a green)

Update 5:10: It appears that Ms. May may have to return to her babysitting job.

Update 5:11: Just in case any of you think that I am not just making this up

Lib 20
Tory 3
NDP 2
Ind 1 (not a green)

Hey, it could be just exactly that…who knows? And with
Canada’s absurd election law you and I are not going to find out unless we cheat and peak at the outside world…only bad Canadians would do such a thing and, when nanny catches you you are going to get such a spanking.

Update 5:14: Apparently, rumour has it, that my 5:11 post channelled Jason
Cherniak – the CPC is said to be coming out the Maritimes with the same number of seats as last election. Danny “Double Dipper” Williams cleverly shut the Tories out of NFLD thereby ensuring that NFLD is shut out of Ottawa if the CPC wins…Smooth Danny, smooth.

Update 5:20: Now we wait for rumours from Quebec. The line is that the CPC is going to lose seats. Harper was not much in evidence after his art cut remarks and his wonderfully unconstitutional musings on youth sentencing. What was the man thinking? Or was he thinking of all those tough on crime, arts hating, 905 voters in “vote rich” Ontario…

Update 5:26:

17 Lib
10 Tory
4 NDP
1 Casey

A bit of a push I’d say. Lizzy may very well have lost so now her only hope is a Liberal win and a Senate seat. Fat chance.

Update 5:40: New Brunswick

POP VOTE:

CPC 42
LIB 29
NDP 23

SEATS:

CPC 7
LIB 2
NDP 1

10 pt drop for Libs

Update 5:48: Now, wouldn’t it be fun if the rest of the rumours continued the 10pt Liberal drop…Call the balliffs.

Update 6:01: Big Rumour! Liberal vote ATL

NL 47.4 UP
PEI 47.7 DN (53)
NS 28.9 DN (37)
NB 31.0 DN (39)

Hmmm…If that were true it would suggest that Dion is not so terribly popular…Who would have thunk it?

Update 6:07: Right, dinner, drop small child off at cubs and back in time for the last twenty minutes of rumours…

Right now, if any of the rumours are true there is every chance that the Grits will run 4-10 points behind their performance last time out. That would suggest that they will lose every single “battleground” riding where they are in contention according to the polls. It does not mean the CPC would win. Things are a bit more complicated than that. If the Liberals simply change places with the NDP and the CPC stays about the same and the Bloc increases its support in Quebec we could easily have an effectively “hung” Parliament. But the breaks could cut the CPC way and they could improve their minority.

Stay tuned and all that. Sadly, in a little over 45 minutes, the BC polls will close and television will do its level best to keep hope alive…

Update 6:37: Rick wrote:
hey if you are in bc turn to RDI although french they are posting the results.

The defence rests…I suspect this will be the last election in Canada with this ridiculous law.

Update: 6:48:
A rumour, apparently from CTV -

CTV Ontario 9:45
libs 18
con 9
ndp 4
grn 0

This would be unsurprising but disappointing if it held…but it won’t.
oth 1

Update 6:10: Here we go…

Another rumor of reporting from CTV:

CPC:44
LIB:41
NDP:14
BQ:6
OTH:1
GRN: 0

CTV calls it a CPC minority government

Update 6:52:

Rumours are getting stronger…blackout – the last vestige of paternalism says Lloyd Robertson (or so I hear) – about to end.

59 tory +2%
49 lib -7%
15 ndp +2%
6 bq – 0 green +2%
2 ind

Update the Last.

A lot of my righty blog friends have been quoting John Diefenbaker today. Here’s the deal righties – either you live by it, or you quote it. This rumours (with the “u”) post has been made because:

“I am a Canadian,
a free Canadian,
free to speak without fear,
free to worship God in my own way,
free to stand for what I think right,
free to oppose what I believe wrong,
free to choose those who shall govern my country.
This heritage of freedom I pledge to uphold
for myself and for all mankind.”

Over!
