The IDF is now saying that almost eight hours elapsed between their attack and the collapse of the building at Qana in which so many children died. This much is probably verifiable, at least with accounts from witnesses. So what happened? People stayed inside a building that was not structurally sound, and died when it collapsed from stress after the attack? Did Hezbollah — the effective government in that area — encourage the children to stay in the building, or to leave it? Did Hezbollah ammunition or explosives detonate, bringing down the building hours after the Israeli raid?

I had wondered why it had taken seven hours for the rescue folks to get there. (With the media.) This would be the reason.
So how did the building collapse? And why were there children in it when it did? And, as Powerline asks, how did Hezbollah have a 30 foot vinyl poster of Secretary Rice ready to go within hours of the building’s collapse?
Truth to tell I don’t know - however, it would not be surprising if there were munitions stored by Hezbollah in or near the building which accidentally went off. And it is not out of the question that Hezbollah, feeling the heat, staged the entire thing with a few strategically placed bits of dynamite. It would hardly be the first time that Islamists have killed their own for PR purposes.
Which is really all there is to say about why it is imperative for the Israelis to take the 48 hour air halt and get their shit together.
The good news is that there is a strong rumour that the IDF has helicoptered a force into the northern end of the Bekaa valley. This would be a key first step in actually beating Hezbollah. The border fights and the arial war are not cutting it.
Update: Just in case you are thinking that there is no way that Hezbollah would be despicable enough to blow up a building with children in it, EU Referendum has a stunningly detailed post on how the poor little victims were used as props for the agit prop photoshoot. There are dead children in these pictures being exploited by Hezbollah. It is not for the weak of heart.
And, Zerb, if you are reading…this really is a media story. A real one.
Update 2: Israelinsider has the details of what might have happened at Qana.
If this was a put up job and that information becomes well known it will be interesting to see what the Hezbollah cheerleaders in MSM will make of it. Or if they report it at all.

Tinfoil a trifle tight, Jay? First “the WMDs are in Syria,” and now this? Why not prove it with rabbit-wire and kerosene?
The rocket-launchers in Qana appear to be missing:
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/745185.html
“As the Israel Air Force continues to investigate the air strike, questions have been raised over military accounts of the incident.
“It now appears that the military had no information on rockets launched from the site of the building, or the presence of Hezbollah men at the time.
“The Israel Defense Forces had said after the deadly air-strike that many rockets had been launched from Qana. However, it changed its version on Monday.”
Geeze, Jay, am I banned or something?
