Octopus in need of sensitivity training
January 28, 2006 |
“It’s certainly a mature male from what I can see in the video,” said Cosgrove. “Old octopuses become what we call senescent, or senile, reaching the end of their life. And sometimes their actions are very inappropriate.”

“Inappropriate”…God I hate that usage. Little boys taking a pee off the top of the slide…Inappropriate. Kids in the back of the bus incapable of uttering a sentence without the word “fuck” as a dependent sylable…Inappropriate. Old guy in an “extended living facility” grabs a nurse’s bottom….Inappropriate. Octopus on the seabed makes a lunge at a mini-sub…Inappropriate.
What could all these uses possibly mean. Other than English is a dead language killed by the sheer laziness and political correctness of its users. Surely to Heaven there is a better way of describing an old octopus’s grab for glory. Because “inappropriate” is simply misleading.

Uh, hello? You’re talking about the language where ‘fat chance’ and ’slim chance’ both mean the same thing. Surely one of the two should be considered…inappropriate.
