My Kyoto…

April 22, 2007 |

The economic costs of signing the Kyoto Protocol in its current form could result in as much as a 37 percent drop in Turkey’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which was $148 billion in 2006, reported a paper prepared by the state agency responsible for charting the progress and possible repercussions of projects.

According to the report presented by the State Planning Organization (DPT) to the Parliament commission investigating the matter, by signing the protocol Turkey would be willingly accepting responsibility to undertake certain measures and the repercussions of these measures could cost between 10 to 37 percent of the GDP. turkish daily news via tim blair

We inadvertantly stumbled on the remains of the Earth Day Rally in Victoria as we headed to Astronomy Day at the provincial Museum (which was very cool and told me that I could get a 10 inch tele for $700 (Made in China of course) as compared to around $2000 ten years ago)). There was the standard issue lefty speaker up on the back porch of the Legislature withering on about some bunch of folks who saw a connection between “social justice” and global warming.

It would have been rude to point out that a 20-40% reduction in economic activity to achieve and entirely useless goal was unlikely to enhance social justice. A point not lost on the Turks.
