Muslim Cleric Terrified of Women

A Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia has called on women to wear a full veil, or niqab, that reveals only one eye.

Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive. bbc

This guy better get back to his 7th century cave as he is making Islam a laughing stock.

The women over there have it easy, the poor women in Canada are terrified of a Harper Majority. Poor Zerb. in the Star is about to have an emotional breakdown,

Renee, one of my favorite Monty Python bits. I shall, of course, enjoy you in a niqab. I’m not sure what we’d do with your glasses. A monocle would be, shall we say, far too provocative. And what will we do about depth perception – the great gift of binocular vision? Well, obviously women don’t need it. Best they think that “objects” are larger than they may appear.

A certain sub-set of Islamists hate and fear women. This is not a matter of dispute – it is simply clear from idiotic utterances such as this one. Not to mention honour killings and the Taliban’s attitude towards school for girls. I find that revolting. But that is just me. If you are down with hating women I supose I should respect your position. But I don’t.

    Too bad.

Blazing, actually I have a whole book on 0…Indian invention, the Muslims passed it on. Hope that does not bring the CHRC down on me….

But why do they need women when they have all those pretty sheep?

Back to the 7th century? – they have been stuck in a mindset that even predates that!

“Making” Islam a laughing stock? I thought that was a done deal.

They’re allowing one eye? What if she does this?

Jay, I say this doesn’t go far enough. I demand that all women have one leg amputated above the knee, so that they won’t be able to walk around and be all … symmetrical … at men when they walk. Also that all girls be forced to wear Groucho nosees and glasses under their robes, so even if they do have pretty faces we’ll know that they look ridiculous anyway. And hey, foot-binding? Not such a bad idea now, is it?

Sigh. What a maroon. I have a problem with any religion that puts some people over others – be it Orthodox Judaism (no talking to men at all), Fundamentalist Islam, Pentacostalism (long hair and skirts), or what have you.

But wait… While we’re going all crazy on women, I also demand that men do something about their provocativeness. If it wasn’t for wanting to impress men, would we wear makeup at all? No. We’d all leave the house in sweat-pants and big comfy sweaters. So from now on I demand that all men be forced wear ridiculously oversized bermuda shorts wherever they go, grow large beer bellies, and refuse to trim their toenails, so as to reduce their sex appeal as much as possible to the fairer sex.

Oh, wait… You already live in Victoria, so you get to see that all day anyway.

    zing !

    (Couldn’t help it…)

Ok, all kidding aside, as one of the posters in the thread Kathy linked to pointed out, Iran was a secular state thirty years ago. When people talk about the Christian Right in the US and how they could never really prevail, well, be afraid. It might not seem as bad, until you remember that killing gays and stoning hoors is considered a good Saturday night by some pastors.

Renee, you’re a looney toon. Give me one link that shows the “Christian Right” was responsible for the killing of any gays in the US. Just one link, that’s all I ask. If you can’t find a link, then at least describe an incident that you actually know about in which the “Christian Right” killed someone because they were gay. You can leave Matthew Shepard case out, because anyone who knows anything about that case should be laughing at you right now (or puking). You’re just repeating mindless memes that you have swallowed without applying any critical analysis to them whatsoever. And by the way, I’m not a practicing Christian. I never have been. I’m somewhere between an agnostic and an atheist. But I recognize mindless robotic thinking, especially when it’s so glaringly obvious.

    Sweater-vests are particularly provocative. : )

Catfur, Jay. The concept of zero or at least of a place holder was kicking around China long before it showed up in India. The Arabs probably stole it from one or t’other during the height of the Arab Empire. After all, they did defeat the Chinese at Talas River in 751 B.C. and brought back Chinese paper makers as prisoners.

Oh, and by the way, Renee, a university student really ought to know how to spell the word “whore”.

Iran was a secular state , but not a democracy, and it was ripe for revolution.
The U.S is far from that .

Sure Mutt. Please cut and paste the explicit instructions that say gays should be murdered.

Btw, Dr Dawg, I support the enactment of laws against sodomy. But then I define “sodomy” as “gang rape of young men visiting your city, and/or of daughters of established residents”.

    Parsing, eh, Louise?

This position, hardly unknown amongst the Christian Right, calls for the killing of gays.

    Here’s one result

Now you’ll no doubt claim that no explicit instructions were given to kill this specific individual. Keep squirming.
