Macleans to CIC: Piss Off…strong letter to follow
The time to discuss reasonable replies to Mr. Steyn’s piece was after the article was published and before the human rights actions were launched. For Maclean’s to agree to any “settlement” with quasi-judicial proceedings under way would be tantamount to an admission of wrongdoing on our part when we have done nothing but practise responsible journalism. It would also be improper and damaging to the integrity of Maclean’s, and a troubling precedent in Canadian media, for us to agree to negotiate the content of our magazine in return for the withdrawal of quasi-judicial legal actions and relief from punitive costs of defending those actions.
Moreover, any settlement at this point would have to be approved by human rights authorities in Ottawa, and would thus involve an implicit acceptance on our part of the jurisdiction of human rights commissions to regulate the content of print media publications in Canada. That is an unacceptable precedent.
We believe that a sincere attempt to settle this matter would have involved a direct and timely approach to Maclean’s rather than a press conference and public ultimatum eighteen months after the publication of Mr. Steyn’s piece. But rather than approaching this magazine for the purposes of conciliation, Mr. Joseph and his clients publicly impugned our journalists at a press conference, tactics sharply at odds with their stated goal of reaching an amicable resolution. macleans
I’m buying a subscription!
Overall a really crappy day for the Socks, Elmo and the CIC. And not such a great day for the CHRC as they are going to be stuck hearing this.
(And, by the way, how long can it take to answer my three complaints. Registered letter this week, Federal Court two weeks after that. Clock’s ticking Jadewarr.)

” ...how long can it take to answer my three complaints? ...”
Had you used an approved agent (like one who was previously employed there), your complaint would have been expedited. With initials like “JC”, that conjure up a disparaging hate image, do you really believe they will even entertain your complaint?
Perhaps you can be more successful if you arrange a couple mumbling sock puppets to act as interveners on your behalf.

I am so proud of them! I did expect them to stand their ground, though I was a wee bit afraid they might wimp out.
I guess I won’t have to cancel my subscription after all.

What! Macleans won’t be blackmailed into submission? Just wait till Djon gets in power with the likes of WK’s et.al. as advisors, we’ll get some new laws to fix that won’t we.

I’m not surprised they refused to surrender to the Political Islamists’ demands, if they did it would of set a chilling precident in Canada. Eventually the Supreme Court will decided this issue, and I suspect it will hand down a scathing ruling regarding the HRCs abuse of power and the HRC overstepping their legislated mandate.
The HRCs are use to dealing with poor white people whom they can demean and order about like trash, they aren’t use to dealing with those that can afford to fight their abusive tyranny.
Macleans rocks.
Jay perhaps they heard you are of native heritage and since natives don’t have “Human Rights” in Canada they just shredded your complaint?? God forbid a real complaint be allowed to go to arbitration. Remember Muslims are Superior in Canada, and Sharia Law can be enforced on all Canadians if the HRCs and it employees deem it so.
Allah Akbar should be the HRC’s new mantra.

LS from SK:
“sjc – the CIC requires a subscription?”
I’m not sure if you were talking to me? (I’m sjt)
I was referring to Macleans magazine standing their ground – in reply to Jay’s posting here entitled “Macleans to CIC: Piss Off…” He said he’s going to buy a subscription, and I said I won’t have to cancel mine.

I only wish they had the freedom to say “piss off”.
