Lest ol’ acquaintance be forgot

Dawg has swallowed the Indian mass grave story whole and taken a few shots at Kate and Kathy for daring to doubt it. I have to admit this is not the sort of story I pay much attention to. Horrible things happened, they still do but not because of residential schools, move on….Until I read that an old acquaintance of mine, Kevin Annett was the paranoid lunatic behind the stories. I posted this comment in response to a commentor, Larry Gambone, who wrote of Annett “I have known Kevin Annett since he was 18 years old. He is one of the most honest and decent individuals I have ever encountered.”

Larry Gambone, I may have know Kevin just slightly longer than you have – since back in the Vancouver Students’ Association (a highschool student’s union Annett was instrumental in destroying) days. I have found him an entirely untrustworthy, self aggrandizing person willing to roll over virtually anyone or anything to make whatever lunatic point has captured his attention.

As Terry Glavin points out in the Tyee to believe Annett you have to swallow an awful lot of wildly implausible stuff.

At the moment, true to form, Annett is of on a self-promotion tour occupying churches.

But watch out if you are thinking of suggesting that Annett is a paranoid lunatic, he fights nasty as Glavin points out:

“Annett and his followers have alleged there are skeletons “between the walls” and under the foundations of buildings at Alert Bay, on Cormorant Island. Namgis tribal administrator George Speck says “no one has a clue” what would make Annett say these things. At Meares Island, Annett says corpses of schoolchildren were stored in the basement of a residential school building, and the bodies of other children are buried in an unmarked grave nearby. Ahousat Coun. Angus Campbell says it’s nonsense: “People would know if it was there.”

It goes on and on like this, but if you persist in pointing out the spectacular unlikelihood that any of Annett’s stories are true, you will almost certainly find yourself accused of “smearing” him. That’s what happens if you’re white, anyway. If you’re aboriginal, you may find yourself called a “police informant” or a “provocateur,” or you’ll be accused of having been a “collaborator and abuser” during your time in residential school. Annett has leveled just these accusations against his detractors.” the tyee

I thought Annett was a dangerous loon when I was in Grade 11. Nothing that I have seen about the man since suggests that my youthful impression was incorrect.

I don’t think your pointing Glavin’s article out to Dawg will help him. He commented on the Tyee piece 4 days ago. Quoting Kissenger even…

    He wants to believe.

Dawg is so blinded by hubris he will never change his mind.

Oops that should read “Mass Graves” Dawg.

Isn’t that mass grave story really set in Nova Scotia with the butter box babies of the adoption home in the Chester area from around 80 years ago? Oh, yeah. That’s not a story. That did happen.

Oh, bullshit, Jay. Since when is calling for an investigation “swallowing a story whole?” That’s gross intellectual dishonesty. If I swallowed the story, I wouldn’t be suggesting an investigation.

As for taking shots at a couple of well-known net-bigots, you aren’t even honest enough to point out that they began those exchanges, with the same ad hominem nonsense that you are now pushing.

No one actually reading my post could possibly draw such stupid conclusions about what it says.

Terry Glavin may be the only sane leftist in Canada at this point.

I didn’t think any of Annett’s stuff was wildly implausible. Some of it may be improbable but history has proven that none of the accusations he’s leveling are wildly implausible.

Why are you so afraid of an investigation taking place, Jay? Is it because what Annett says might turn out to be true?

“to believe Annett you have to swallow an awful lot of wildly implausible stuff”

Really! Annett spins tales of 1st and 2nd estate degeneracy taken directly from pulp fiction, but because the tales are condemning of western culture, the Christian church, capitalism or colonialism…all the favorite bogeymen of bolshi reactionary paranoia, you can be assured the story will become a substantiated legend when reciprocated by dogmatic crypto-communist demagogues.

First the Lemire-as-a-Nazi wishful thinking and now this…I think we know what Annett is… all we are pondering now is how deeply sycophantic to morbid distortions of reality dilettantes like Dawg are prone to…he keeps telegraphing it to us in his willingness to make extremist political mythology into fact.

Stop right there. This was the former head of the Heritage Front. What the hell was that outfit? A conservative fricken think-tank? Don’t answer that.

Give your head a shake, WLMR. And try not to rattle.

You should see the stuff Terry didn’t print about Annett, the man is clearly unbalanced so Terry let him off easy.

Anyone know what happened to this?

Peter Bryce is mentioned, the Chief Medical Officer for Indian Affairs in the early 20th century. More on Bryce here.

I don’t know which is more absurd; calling Glavin a leftist or Shaidle judging anyone’s sanity.

I too was curious whether Annett’s claims were true, since people scoffed at his outrageous statement that “50%, over 50,000 children died in the residential schools”. Imagine my surprise when the media (Canadian Press) went to the government (INAC) for verification, AND THEY DID NOT DISPUTE THOSE FACTS!

Annetts facts come from government records. The survivors’ stories come from survivors themselves. There is nothing in what he says that can be disputed. Investigation will only prove the truth of Canada’s genocide, which is why Canada is hiding behind a false ‘Truth and Reconciliation Commission’ that is designed to accomplish absolutely nothing relating to the truth except covering it up.

Which is why Indigenous Elders are convening their own Tribunal with investigative and financial support from four other countries.

What is the problem with checking out his story?

If he’s lying, then all the right wing people get to run about yelling “I told you so!”. If he’s not lying all the right wing people get to put on their best coat of platitudes and go on about how they believe in justice and righting old wrongs….

    It’s win win.

Nah, better to attack Annett (who’d I’d never heard of before this) as if he’s the only one who’s saying these things, attack anyone who suggests that mb there should be a poke about to see if he’s telling the truth and then go back to whatever important things you were up to before ….

Terry Glavin is a man of the left McClelland, an honourable one. It is a relief to realize that a sane left exists, I thought it had been overun by delusional screaming harpies like yourself.

The general problem with an investigation is that Annett is a proven nutter…However, tell you what.

Let’s investigate Annett’s accusations but let us also have a judicial inquiry into the conduct of the CHRC and its s 13 “hate speech” investigators. Want to bet which investigation turns up more substance?

Terry Glavin is a man of the left about as much as I’m a conservative. He’s a one-man false flag operation.

Jay, your adroit combination of backpedalling and goalpost moving isn’t going to fly. First you accuse me of “swallowing a story whole.” Corrected, you now want to shoehorn in your favourite bogeyman, the CHRC. That may delight the banjo-players who hang out over here, but I’m disappointed, to put it mildly.

The accusations are not Annett’s alone, as you well know. (His Tribunal is composed of Native leaders.) The point is, though, that they’re falsifiable. Shrieking about my imagined credulity is no substitute for investigating the story. Good grief, no wonder you buy into global warming denial.

Ok, cool, can we also investigate gravity?

Because the three are closely related.

Yea but Siegfried and Roy would sound more manly.

A very similar story (although much smaller in scale) occurred on the Island of Jersey just a few months ago:

    http://www.richardwebster.net/jersey-skull.htm

So, yes, things like this should be investigated. Just don’t think it won’t turn out to be another McMartin Pre-school trial…
