Inappropriate Conduct

The Conservative leader further tried to defuse the Sparrow situation during his speech in Saint Eustache by saying that the e-mail was “inappropriate” (the same word he used to describe the offending puffin image) and that he was going to make sure the tone he set was followed by the rest of his campaign team. national post

Am I the only person who thinks that the word “inappropriate” should never cross the lips of anyone devoid of context? Shorts are “inappropriate” at a black tie dinner. In my view “fuck” is “inappropriate” in a business meeting. Beyond that “inappropriate” is really just clucking disapprovingly at things which we feel uncomfortable about directly addressing.

When my four year old Max hauls off and flattens your little Liam he is not being “inappropriate”, he is out of line and in line for a time out. When Mr. Sparrow questions the political affiliation of the father of one of Canada’s dead heroes he is not being “inappropriate” rather he is being a total jerk and should be kicked from the campaign. As to the puffin, “childish” springs to mind.

Say what you mean folks.

Dunno Jay it seems hypocritical that one would be fired from a partisan position in a fully partisan system during a partisan exercise (elelction campaigning) simply for thinking like a partisan.

Was Harper trying to tell us that being a partisan is “inappropriate” when he is a proponent of the party system?

BTW I don’t think what sparrow said was “inappropriate” in the circumstance and context….he speculated that the father’s partisanism impacted his opinions…fair game. That in no way is dissing a dead soldier or his sacrifices. I think Harper was just looking for an excuse to can the guy and this was as good as any.

“In my view “fuck” is “inappropriate” in a business meeting.”

Usually, but when necessary boy does it get everybody’s attention in a hurry..:)

Yes, if the public weren’t so stupid (I mean that in the Elizabeth May context, of course), “gotcha” politics wouldn’t be so important.

This can be read as either sarcasm or irony, depending on how stupid the reader is, or how desperate he or she is to “get” me…

There is nothing partisan in support of the military and there is nothing acceptable in labeling the father of the deceased as a political opponent. The proper labeling for Sparrow’s email is “unacceptable” or maybe “a firing offense”.

By contrast, if you could tell the 573 people who have used “fuck” or variations thereof in business meetings to stop, it would be nice.
