It took him seven years to take over enough riding associations to make his leadership win a certainty. Who else has the organization? Who could get a credible candidacy together in time? Unless Martin realizes that he is NEVER going to win a majority government and packs it in, the Liberals around him won't be that suicidal. That said, if Martin does resign, I will be a happy camper. The main reason I'm rooting for the Liberals to see some opposition time is because that's the only scenario I can see where Martin is forced out, and the Liberals have that cathartic leadership contest that's so long overdue.
