Grand!
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has declared victory in the Kadima Party leadership race by a narrow margin of 431 votes. The victory gives her the chance to set up Israel’s next government. ap
Ehud Olmert had to go. Not because of the allegations of corruption; rather because he had no clue about how to fight and win the war against Hezbollah.
Will Tzipi do better? I don’t know; but she could hardly do worse. Israel needs a makeover. It needs to move past the Sharon years and get back to the essential principles and tropes of its founding. There is not the slightest reason why Israel cannot be at Peace with the Palis and the
Arab world - save for the Hamas “destruction of the Zionist state thing.
That can be defused. Partially by being tough as nails; but partially by being able to talk. Ehud Olmert couldn’t talk. Tzipi may be able to.
There is no winning in the Mid East; rather there is the possibility of not losing. A new leader can tip the scales.
Mazotov Tzipi. Be as tough as Golda and as prepared; but reach out. There maybe a Peace within your grasp. Reach.
