Going Roaming (or Roman) in the wackystans
A former senior US official said that Pakistan was the “real front line in the war against Al Qaeda”, but it is the “most frightening concern” that Al Qaeda was in pursuit of a nuclear weapon.
Bruce Riedel of the Brookings Institution said that Pakistan was the world’s only Muslim state with nuclear weapons, and that in the last decade a former CIA chief George Tenet had said that Al Qaeda was making efforts to get its hands on a Pakistani nuclear device. “Today, it has a secure operating base in the country, its leadership is issuing constant guidance to its global supporters, it is threatening NATO’s position in Afghanistan through its Taliban allies and it is now a growing force in Pakistan itself. The current political crisis in Pakistan is endangering the secular democratic forces in the country, polarising the debate about the country’s future and strengthening Al Qaeda’s Islamist partners. pakistan daily times
Were I Osama I would be after the Pak nukes. Which is why it is well past time for Canada - and Nato if it dares - to declare that hot pursuit of Taliban elements will go into the “Tribal Areas” of Pakistan as the sovereignty of Pakistan in that area has ended. And it is likely time for Canada, and such allies as it can muster, to make it clear that it sees the war in Afghanistan in regional terms.
Not that this will happen as the dolt Harper cannot imagine actually doing anything which will offend the bien pensant of TO and, most importantly, Quebec.
I’d say Harper has about six months to get a clue. If he doesn’t then I will be out there with the lefty nitwits demanding that the troops be brought home simply because the Canadian government is too stunned to notice where the Taliban are coming from, who they work for and what it will take to defeat them. This is an essentially political decision and if Harper cannot make it not a single Canadian should die in Afghanistan no matter how just the cause.
Time to fish or cut bait. Past time actually. every day the Taliban are allowed to operate from the so called tribal areas is another day closer to the catastrophe of the “Islamic” bomb(s) falling into the hands of the Islamists.
