Dusting Off Plan-B

I just listened to an interview CFRB’s Brian Lilley did with Justice Minister Rob Nicholson. The minister would not directly answer whether he supported Professor Moon’s recommendation to repeal Section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act.

He said:

“Well, we’re going to have a very careful look at Professor Moon’s recommendations.”

It just came out today and it’s fairly extensive.”

He said he still hopes the Justice Committee will take it up.

“With the report just being released today I think its important that we have a very careful look at it.”

As Justice Minister he said he gets lots of input on changes to various laws: drug laws, changes to criminal justice act, auto theft, identity theft. “It’s very difficult to get any changes through Parliament.” deborah gyapong

It would be nice to think that the CPC faced with the overwhelming opinion of their policy convention and now the CHRC’s own investigator’s report suggesting the repeal of s. 13 of the CHRA would grab a clue and just get’er done.

If not, well, as I have written below, politicians really only understand one thing: power. Ezra is out there astroturfing the PMO and Nicolson’s office, I am looking at carpet bombing. They surely cannot be so weak that they cannot pass this simple bit of legislation. But if they are they do not deserve a majority….ever.

Well if nothing else is gained, at least this has proven that Nicholson is a useless teat. A rubber stamp invertebrate with no civil cognitive state or responsible initiative….the perfect lackey in a status quo technocratic governing clique.

are you suggesting forming a party?

if you are, good idea. but know what? the Conservatives, ironically, would pounce and throw around terms like “scary” and “extremist”, just like some Alberta Tories did to Ted Morton during our leadership race.

...hmmm, come to think of it, maybe the publicity would wake up some actual conservative/libertarian voters in this flaccid nation.

shel, the Plan-B objective is not to win seats; rather it is to prevent the CPC from winning a majority.

This can be achieved most efficiently by running candidates in the twenty to forty ridings across the country where the CPC won or came second by less than a couple of thousand votes. Simply by having a right alternative on the ballot Plan-B should be able to suck 1000-2000 votes away from the CPC which loses them the riding and their majority.

As to scary, extremist and so on…that only matters if you are trying to win. Plan-B would not be trying to win, it would be trying to make sure the CPC lost.
