Blair has always understood
Mr Blair went on: “I said straight after the attack of September 2001 that this was not an attack on America but on all of us. That Britain’s duty was to be shoulder to shoulder with you in confronting it. I meant it then and I mean it now.”He added: “America and Europe should not be divided, we should stand up together.
“The values we share are as vital and true and, above all, needed today as they have been at any time in the last 100 years.” the london times
For which the Left of the Labour Party has never forgiven Tony Blair. Imagine the man actually getting it. He sounds positively American in his his understanding of the threat that Islamofascism poses to the West. Or, perhaps. grown up. None of the right thinking Hampstead people wanted to even think that Iran or Iraq might pose a civilizational threat. After all it would get in the way of despising the beastly Jews and their rotten little nation in Israel.
You can’t get be Harold Pinter or Mrs. Drabble if you take the idea of Islamofacism at all seriously. Blair knew that and he opposed the jihadis nonetheless.
For which he deserves our thanks.
