“Allow me to glue a short technical note here for the benefit of some poor soul who might googling desperately for help while in the predicament I found myself in on Wednesday. In recent months I’ve found myself increasingly convinced, by research and experience, that added monitor space can improve the efficiency of a desk jockey and possibly even pay for itself. (When I lived with Kevin Grace I used to make fun of him for his geek-macho preoccupation with monitor size; now, and not for the first time, I find myself grudgingly accepting what he seems to have known all along.) This morning I spotted a good “instant rebate” deal on a 22-inch monitor at Staples, and I managed to get to the shop just in time to grab the last one in stock. The resolution of the new monitor is 1,680 pixels by 1,050, giving me more than twice the acreage I formerly had. I have owned Japanese cars whose hoods weren’t this large.” colby cosh

I was up in Beacon Hill Park today with the aforementioned Kevin Grace who allerted me to Colby’s most recent acquisition. Which gave me a chance to mention that yesterday afternoon, beside our garbage bin I came across a Viewsonic 21 inch monitor. I hauled it up the three flights of stairs to my humble abode. Frankly I have owned Japanese cars that weighed less than this puppy. Finest 1994 technology. I let the beast dry off as I enjoyed a refreshing beverage. Plugged it in and, rather than the arcing I was expecting, up it came bright and huge. About a billion pixels in all directions. My Nvida card - which actually used to be Kevin’s - gave a little sigh of satisfaction and mumbled “At Last”.

I am now able to play Inselkampf.com at full resolution….Which, as it is entirely text based is not actually that cool.

It was, however, even without a rebate, free.
