A prophet is not without honour,

A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
jesus, Matthew 13:57

So far the networks have not managed to interview Jesus but he certainly would have understood Dion’s dilemma.

Dion, political junkies will remember, stuck it to the PQ with the Clarity Act and his open letters to Quebec. Basically, Dion forced the issue of soft separatism to the great discomfort not only of the soverigntists but also the concept of profitable federalism. As Wikipedia puts it,

In the three open letters, Dion maintained the position that the Government of Canada would negotiate the secession of the province of Quebec if a clear majority of Quebecers expressed their will to secede in a clear and unambiguous question. This position became the cornerstone of the Clarity Act and is credited along with the growing unpopularity of the Parti Québécois government and the growing fatigue with the sovereignty debate to weakening public support in Quebec for sovereignty until the Sponsorship Scandal broke in 2004. wikipedia

A certain segment of the Quebec political elite has hated him ever since. And that segment includes many people who are delegates to the current convention.

Which may very well mean that Dion may win without significant support in Quebec. Which, strangely enough, was much the situation Jean Chrétien found himself in as he went on to beat Paul Martin.
