Grade Three

I underestimated Kinsella’s impact. Today, the CJC has put out an urgent news release: somewhere in Toronto, a school desk was found to have some anti-Semitic graffiti scribbled on it. If finding a swastika scrawled on a bathroom wall was cause for an Orange Alert, this graffiti — on a desk, people, a desk! — is War Measures Act material.

It’s embarrassing to see a once-great institution like the CJC be reduced to issuing red alerts over kids’ graffiti. I’m not in favour of anti-Semitic graffiti, especially on Toronto campuses. That’s vandalism, and it’s also downright rude. But it says something about the CJC that while they’re awfully brave at tackling anonymous graffiti, they don’t dare criticize, say, the annual Israel Apartheid Week Jew-bashing festival on Toronto campuses. That would mean butting heads with their more, uh, spirited friends. ezra levant

Dear God I hope the CJC and the CHRC never find my grade three desk. Not only would they find the swastika (easy to carve with a bic pen) but they would also find a peace symbol, a couple of badly drawn Mobious strips, one or two rather rude and, realistically, sexist words and a crude drawing or two which, I fear, demonstrated my complete and unredeemed ignorance of female anatomy. My mini Oxford dictionary was, I fear, festooned with much the same thing.

Steve

Back when I was a baby blogger and the world was young I had three places I went: Andrew Sullivan, Glenn Reynolds, LGF and Steve DenBeste.

I still go to Andrew’s, LGF and Glenn’s - more the latter than the former - and I hit various Canadian blogs as well. But, truth to tell, my blog cruising seems unbalanced.

DenBeste was the bedrock, the engineer looks at the world, the guy who worked until he knew the answer and then wrote it as best he could. It was a style of blogging which, to this day, with lapses, I aspire to.

Now he writes about Anime. Which he loves and I don’t get at all.

Glenn and Andrew and LGF - and Small Dead Animals and Five Feet of Fury and a bunch of other blogs - keep me interested. But not one of them has the capacity, as Steve did, to make me seriously rethink my position.

Four years of Anime is surely long enough. Steve, come back. Even if it is a post a month.

The Hillabeest Dissected

After saying she found her “voice” in New Hampshire, she has turned into Sybil. We’ve had Experienced Hillary, Soft Hillary, Hard Hillary, Misty Hillary, Sarcastic Hillary, Joined-at-the-Hip-to-Bill Hillary, Her-Own-Person-Who-Just-Happens-to-Be-Married-to-a-Former-President Hillary, It’s-My-Turn Hillary, Cuddly Hillary, Let’s-Get-Down-in-the-Dirt-and-Fight-Like-Dogs Hillary. Maureen Dowd

Dowd on Republicans is pathetic; but let her sharpen her claw on the Dems and she nails it. Takes one to know one and all that.
