Canada Day, eh

Well, it is unlikely to actually snow here in Victoria; but the kids will be wearing parkas to watch the fireworks. I blame Al Gore (and David Suzuki.)

Andrew Coyne fulminates on the absence of any serious authority in DisneyLand by the Rideau. Liberals-Lite are in the thrall of the provinces, the Liberal Senate, Indians (one of whom is a tiny bit pissed at Kathy) and Kyotoists and Andy figures this makes us ungovernable.

Meanwhile Canada - despite the blockades and the assorted bits of official silliness - is an astonishingly rich and rather relaxed place. This Canada Day sees our dollar nearly at par with the USD, our exports surging ahead, our budget (ignoring assorted bits of flim flam - after all what’s a billion here and there?) is in balance.

We are at war; but even that is likely for the right reasons and at a comparatively low intensity.

We remain a remarkably lucky nation (or nations…whatever).
