The Last Hurrah

Imagine that you are, more or less, running the CBC. Your ratings (minus HNIC) are in the toilet, the wrong party is in government, the looming threat of privatization is hanging over you. What would you do?

Apparently you’d make a television show about Muslims on the Prairies.

Go out with a bang as it were.

Could be that Little Mosque on the Prairie will be brilliant, balanced, funny.

No, really, even the lamest premise can be redeemed with great writing and smart direction.

Or it could be a show about Muslims having to deal with stereotypically redneck Prairie folks. In which case the howl in Western MPs ears is going to be so loud and so furious that the CBC will have to pull the plug in a matter of weeks.

We won’t know until we see it. And not just the first episode either. It will take two, or maybe three, to figure out if this is just another in a long series of politically correct, make lame fun of the white guys, efforts from the mother corp.

Which will mean this is the good bye fuck you from a national institution which has long past its expiry date.
