Okay, Brent is an Idiot, but

Earlier this week I received a call from the Fox News Senior Vice President for International Distribution in New York to discuss this story. She was very appreciative of my concerns and told me that the person responsible for negotiating the contracts with Canadian cable providers is no longer with Fox and that they had the same concerns about some of the channel options provided with FNC.

I was able to inform her that Cogeco had added FNC to a new package and today I received a courier package with a nice note thanking me for being such a pro-active Fox News fan and included 2 hats and luggage tags.

Brent Colbert, who is an idiot and a liar, got something right when he objected to having to take sex tv as part of the package with Fox News. He objected and, delightfully got two hats and a luggage tag for his troubles. I think this is a good thing.

The CBC

The CBC’s current management would have to have the right to tender, along with the dozens of experienced private broadcasters and specialty-channel operators, many of whom have been saying quietly for years that they would love to get their hands on the dinosaur, to show the country what a really distinguished public-broadcasting service would look and sound like at, say, 30 per cent of the present cost.
globe and mail (behind subscription wall) via john gushueNot a bad idea at all.

The fact is that the CBC is largely irrelevant to the vast majority of Canadians. If you took away Hockey Night in Canada its viewership would be barely perceptible. What is needed is a wholesale rethink of what public broadcasting is and how it should be done.

If done at all.
